Tips for Fall Family Photos
Fall is the PERFECT time to take family photos. With the changing leaves and rich colors, it offers the perfect backdrop to capture your family and their smiling faces!
Because I know family photo shoots can be rather stress-inducing, I wanted to get advice from my friend, Liz Allison, who is a family photographer. Check out her top tips below for choosing outfits, location and the perfect time of day to shoot!
TIPS FROM A PHOTOGRAPHER:
When choosing outfits, don’t try and be too “matchy matchy”. It’s nice to have a color scheme to go off of so you’re coordinated, but not matching.
Pinterest is a GREAT place to look for outfit inspiration for each member of the family!
Let one member of your family be the pop of color. Everyone else should compliment and go for more neutral options. For instance, if you have one girl let her have the pop of color!
Don’t be afraid of patterns! You don’t all have to be in solids.
You don’t need a fancy background or the perfect location….the family is more of the focus anyway. People tend to get worked up over this, but trust me, it really isn’t that important.
Accessorize! Don’t hold yourself back. You can never over accessorize. My favorites are big earrings and scarves (which you can easily add and take off as necessary)
As far as timing, pick a night when you’re not short on time, you’re all well rested and little kids are fed. Don’t show up with a cranky toddler who’s missed a nap! Things will not end well :)
Pack snacks and drinks. Bring a back up bribe in your purse. Candy bribes work wonders!
Have fun! The more enjoyable you can make the session, the better your photos will turn out.
